Have you ever come across an opportunity but you did not feel ready? I have to be honest with you. I do not like to rush things, and I do not like being rushed. When it comes to making decisions, I would like to give myself enough time to think thoroughly before I finally decide. It is not necessarily bad, especially if we are talking about life-altering decisions, such as the one we are going to marry. However, there will be times when we need to decide something without knowing for sure how things will work out.
By the way, this post is supposed to be more like an update about how I have been doing lately. First of all, I would like to thank all of you who have been checking out my platform, whether you have visited this website or my Instagram account.
I would like to share a bit more about myself so you can get a glimpse of the person behind Embrace & Thrive. I am currently taking a master degree at a polytechnic in Auckland, New Zealand. I come from Indonesia and I have been married for almost four years.
I have been wanting to build a platform like this for quite a long time, but never really had the chance to make it happen. Finally, I had the opportunity to carry out a project as part of my action research. So, here I am. Working on articles and other types of content for Embrace & Thrive.
I have really enjoyed the process, but on the other hand, I also feel a bit stressed out due to the workload. I have to do multiple things at the same time, from writing articles, drawing illustrations to posting Instagram content and writing my thesis. In addition to that, I am supposed to find myself a job. It means I need to learn some new skills because the requirements here are different from those in my home country. It feels like I never have enough time to do everything.
Sometimes, it makes me feel as if the timing is not right. In other words, I was not ready to do this. To build this platform. Finding a job was supposed to be my priority, wasn’t it? After all, my husband and I are new in this country and we need to settle down. Yet, as I was giving it a thought, I figured that I was wrong. The fact is, if I have to wait until I am ready, I might have to wait forever.
All these years, I had been making my job my priority and putting aside this dream to become an author. I finally realised that it is me who has to decide whether or not the timing is right. As long as I keep saying this is not the right time, it is not. Once I decide that this IS the right time, I will have to act accordingly. I am ready. I have to be.
Anyway, I am not trying to encourage you to rush all your decisions. Especially for the decision that will have a serious impact on those around you. We have to consider what needs to be considered. We need the wisdom to weigh the things we already have at hand. It also needs good knowledge of ourselves. Do you know yourself very well? Some things may work for some people, but they will not to other kinds of people. For example, in my case, I love writing and I have this passion to bring values to people. I know I have the capacity to carry out this project. Yes, there are some challenges I need to work on, but they will help me to even grow that capacity. We also have savings and I am still trying my best to prepare my portfolio so I can apply for jobs.
